Tips to Apply Eyeshadow

When we talk about how to apply eye makeup, we usually mean what colors to use and where to apply them to the eye. But how we apply our eye makeup can take her from struggling with her makeup to creating artful and beautiful eyes. Here are a few tips from some of our artists and consultants that really helped me.

When applying eye shadow on the eyelid, do not pan. Dab or press on the paint with a flat brush like our Deluxe Shader Brush. The paint sticks better and stays where you want it instead of all over your face. Apply darker eyeshadow in a circular motion so that the color blends more easily and you do not have lines or rough spots. This works wonderfully with soft and natural eye makeup looks as well as with dramatic looks, vibrant shades and smoky eyes. If you mix when applying, you will not have the hard edge that is so difficult to blend.

One of the basics when applying makeup is to place this contour shadow in the crease. To find your crease, close your eye and press lightly on it. The fold is the notch that encloses the upper half of your eyeball. Apply your contour paint with your eyes open in the crease. If you close your eye to apply your contour shadow, it will disappear in the crease when you open your eye. Use a “wiper” movement to lift your brush as little as possible.

Follow the natural contour of the eye and blind it. You may also want to bring the color a little to the outer corner of the eyelid and create a afteral “V”. Some wonderful makeup brushes to try out are the Eye Shader Brush and the Crease Brush for a softer look. or the eye contour brush for more drama. Sometimes I use a lighter shade in the crease of the eyelid, sometimes darker, sometimes shimmering, sometimes matte. Do not be afraid to experiment!
